From across d nile with love

Why do u think there will be a better life in Babylon
walking back to Egypt for onions, for how long
why do u leave Zion, giving up her promises
to go dwell in the slave master's premises
Here I am by the rivers of Babylon longing
for home, the heat, the green at my heart are tugging
the hills and trees under a great burden of ills
perpetrated by her kids and now their kids
Brethren do u not know d view is obscured from a distance
once u cross d Nile u will rouse from ur trance
awaken to the harsh reality of d vanity
to this poverty of a different kind to which u were blind,
then these words of mine will be urs, yes, every line
as you feed on food meant for the swine
and an emptiness unfillable with wine,
as u strive daily from nine to nine
working ur job, completing ur every task
striving only to pay ur bills and ofcourse ur tax
u will shop for the flashy labels on credit
ur financial plans u will ever have to edit
u will pose by every grand car u do not own
for those silly pictures for friends and family back home
u will get back to ur flat, shut ur door and feel all alone
turn on ur TV to watch the same movie in 7 days six times shown
and then you will sing this song
as ur heart for Zion will long
cos Brother back home is where we truly belong!
